Interview with James Nevels, head of the School Reform Commission, in today's Inquirer. Hard to get a real sense of his belief systems, apart from:
ending teaching seniority= automatic improvement of schools
First, it's not as though Masterman or Central will suddenly cease to soak up a large portion of the teaching talent in the district.
Second, why isn't he identifying teachers or small clusters of teachers in various schools and giving them the support they need?
If he is truly concerned with student improvement, he needs to better understand how significant teachers are in the process.
Unfortunately, all of the various models that equate education with business are incapable of accounting for the central role of the teacher.
