11/05/2004: "What we must do next"
As depressed as I am about this election, there are things that need doin', and need doin' right away.
1. We must write and make as much noise as possible about the nominees to the supreme court. Yeah, they can jam it down our throat, but let's hope we can at least give them pause.
2. Locally, we must begin to organize to defeat Rick Santorum. We all know that the PA democrats are capable of nominating folks who have no chance of winning a Senate spot.
On the other hand--- Judy Rodin as a Senator? Ed Rendell?
But...if we can generate real turnout here in Philly, turnout akin to Tuesday, we should be able to remove Santorum.
3. We must find ways to explain Social Security reform that do not cause folks to glaze over. Privatization will only result in huge corporate profits and grandparents eating catfood. Furthermore, let's make Bush "waste" his "capital," make SS reform his health care quaqmire.
4. We must keep the anti-war heat on- it was the one tragedy of Dean departing the race that Democrats started making mealy mouthed statements about fighting the war differently. Once we invade F___, I hope this sentiment will change.
