05/10/2005: "Social Studies Tests in NYC"

Funny articlein the Times discussing dropping social studies scores.

It appears that social studies tests are not used in any of these accountability schemes, whether via the state or NCLB.

Duh.

Teachers have a limited capital within their classrooms and buildings. This new system forces them to spend it on making children work hard on standardized tests. But there's only so much you can ask of your students, and you're eventually going to figure out which tests you have to jump up and down about, and which tests you can let slide.

Those who don't understand this ought to be assigned proctor duty for a 40 hour week to see how they respond.
