05/12/2005: "Restored to Service"

In speaking to the school district folks today, it appears that I will be restored to service tomorrow. That means that I'll be able to apply for site selection positions and that as eligibility lists are formed, I'll be able to go and pick a school.

Now this tentative return to teaching in Philadelphia is premised on one thing- getting to a controlled environment. If I'm not getting much done as a full-time child care person, I'm certainly not going to get anything done working in a crazy place. Teaching, in and of itself, is a hard, but managable job. Teaching in a building where things are constantly being set on fire and where students are essentially in charge- that's not really teaching. That's survival.

I'm not sure how many of these schools will be available. Somewhat scary to think about...
