{"id":143,"date":"2008-02-14T10:48:49","date_gmt":"2008-02-14T14:48:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrclapper.com\/blog2\/?p=143"},"modified":"2008-02-14T10:48:49","modified_gmt":"2008-02-14T14:48:49","slug":"whats-wrong-with","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mrclapper.com\/blog2\/?p=143","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s wrong with&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Usually not a huge fan of the books that explain the fall of Western Civilization but I did like this argument, as put forth by Susan Jacoby (or at least by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/02\/14\/books\/14dumb.html?_r=1&#038;pagewanted=print\">reviewer<\/a>): <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>anti-intellectualism (the attitude that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153too much learning can be a dangerous thing\u00e2\u20ac\u009d) and anti-rationalism (\u00e2\u20ac\u0153the idea that there is no such things as evidence or fact, just opinion\u00e2\u20ac\u009d) have fused in a particularly insidious way.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Usually pundits\/scholars base the latter portion of the argument on the rise of relativism.  I like this characterization better.
