{"id":2092,"date":"2016-10-18T07:37:57","date_gmt":"2016-10-18T11:37:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrclapper.com\/blog2\/?p=2092"},"modified":"2016-10-18T07:37:57","modified_gmt":"2016-10-18T11:37:57","slug":"what-makes-a-project-real","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mrclapper.com\/blog2\/?p=2092","title":{"rendered":"What makes a project real?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We spent some time yesterday talking through this idea &#8212; what makes a project &#8220;real&#8221; &#8212; and it was fascinating how well the students have internalized the language of project design.  More importantly, and it will be the focus for this morning&#8217;s circle, is the question of what makes a project real for an individual and what makes it real for the rest of the world?  This distinction is important because it&#8217;s the difference between a project as a school thing and a project as a world thing.  <\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re going to take the following statements and sort them into two categories:  <\/p>\n<p>A project is real when: <\/p>\n<p>the person knows the deliverables (LS)<br \/>\na person truly cares about the work they do and the outcome is worth doing (CB)<br \/>\nyou can see that the person or people put their dedication into it (KH)<br \/>\nyou come across problems and have to fix them (MT)<br \/>\nothers learn or build from your project (KM)<br \/>\nother people are able to see it and feel it (TC)<br \/>\nthe project lives on, people are inspired by it because it&#8217;s memorable (IJ)<br \/>\nwhen it makes people want to do something like that on their own (EG)<br \/>\nif you puts as much effort into thinking of a project as you would building it (SH)<br \/>\nif you are doing something that matters, like a #blacklivesmatter project.  Or something (AM)<br \/>\nif you&#8217;re fixing a real world problem (DD)<br \/>\nif you learn something new or get better at something (DD)<br \/>\nif you can explain why the project is real (birthday girl)<br \/>\nif you understand the purpose of the project (KS)<br \/>\nif it&#8217;s challenging.  (AH)<br \/>\nif you are aware of the work process (HG)<br \/>\n<strong>it touches people, benefits people, makes them look at something differently, solves a problem, and connects with them (HG)  <\/strong><br \/>\nyour ideas come to life (DW)<br \/>\nthe person&#8217;s dream and passion are behind the project (MH)<br \/>\nall the components are done (AR)   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We spent some time yesterday talking through this idea &#8212; what makes a project &#8220;real&#8221; &#8212; and it was fascinating how well the students have internalized the language of project design.
