{"id":979,"date":"2013-03-03T12:08:45","date_gmt":"2013-03-03T16:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrclapper.com\/blog2\/?p=979"},"modified":"2013-03-03T12:08:45","modified_gmt":"2013-03-03T16:08:45","slug":"saturday-starting-greens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mrclapper.com\/blog2\/?p=979","title":{"rendered":"Saturday, Starting Greens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kara and I worked hard to get our greens started today.   <\/p>\n<p>We used Organic Mechanics Seed Starting mix, the egg cartons we always save, and planted a bunch of greens: <\/p>\n<p>Lettuce<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seedsavers.org\/onlinestore\/lettuce\/Lettuce-Winter-Density-OG.html\">Winter Density<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seedsavers.org\/onlinestore\/lettuce\/Lettuce-Merveille-Quartre.html\">Marvaille des Quatres Saisons <\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seedsavers.org\/onlinestore\/lettuce\/Lettuce-Green-Oakleaf-OG.html\">Green Oak Leaf <\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seedsavers.org\/onlinestore\/lettuce\/Lettuce-Susans-Red-Bibb.html\">Susan&#8217;s Red Bib <\/a><br \/>\nBurpee Organic Green Leaf<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seedsavers.org\/onlinestore\/arugula_3\/Arugula-OG.html\">Arugula <\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seedsavers.org\/onlinestore\/spinach\/Spinach-America.html\">Spinach<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Apart from the Arugula, which has a germination time of 5-7 days, everything else is 7-14 days. That&#8217;s when we find out whether this system will work:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/sidelinecast\/8525014672\/\" title=\"Untitled by micclap, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8382\/8525014672_4c8df0fe00_z.jpg?resize=474%2C356\" width=\"474\" height=\"356\" alt=\"Untitled\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Total cost:<br \/>\nEl cheepo Home Depot Green House: $25.00<br \/>\nI bought it basically for the prefab plastic cover. Our little cat would tear up the plants otherwise.<br \/>\nTwo grow lights and four t12bulbs:  $60.00<br \/>\nSeeds: $20.00<\/p>\n<p>Plant starts range in price.  At a 1.00 a piece, once we get 100 plant starts, we&#8217;ll break even.  I&#8217;m hoping I can get the greens into the ground next to rows of direct seed to judge the two against each other.  <\/p>\n<p>I also want them out in time to start all of the basil and tomato plants.   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kara and I worked hard to get our greens started today.
