New survey on American reading habits- Reading at Risk- that suggests that fewer American are perusing novels, plays, and poetry.
I wondered what the data might look like if you deleted the monster sellers- the Harry Potter books, for instance- would the numbers be even more depressing?
One weird statistic from the report - folks who regularly read literature are more likely to have attended a sporting event over the past year. Does this reflect the growing class bias in ticket sales, i.e., who can really afford to go the game anymore...
