Once again, we're reminded that our initial plan in Iraq was fundamentally short-sighted.
Allawi declared that Iraqis cannot accept foreign occupation but added that the 138,000 U.S. troops and their allies must remain for a time to impose order.
Had the U.S. had a plan for Iraq other than "Iraqi Freedom" than perhaps the looting and utter destruction of infrastructure would not have occurred. Now the new government must build from scratch, dependent on the American military for security, knowing that their dependence probably contains the seeds of their own downfall.
