12/06/2004: "Role Model Program"
This is actually a pretty good idea, paying 12th graders and 8th graders to tutor younger children.
Not quite sure how it'll be implemented (neither is the school district) but if done correctly, it might actually work. It would benefit eighth graders immensely.
Interesting that they are using the statistic that 53% of Philadelphia ninth graders graduate in 4 years- it might be true, but what would happen if you removed the special admission high schools? Last I heard, the grad rate for places like West and University City was between 28 and 33%, common for most comprehensive high schools.
